Inkloom Origin: Your Book's Birth Record
Certify a finished edition with an immutable Origin ID, a signed provenance record, manuscript and package fingerprints, and a lineage you can verify later. Optional, private by default, and not a copyright registration.

Why this is hard
Long manuscripts have problems that short documents do not.
A finished book can exist in several files and several versions. Months later, you may need to show which edition was final, whether a file was altered, or how one edition relates to another. Ordinary export gives you a file, but not a durable record of the book's identity.
A provenance system must identify the work without exposing the manuscript, detect changes without depending on one filename, and distinguish an exact file match from content that merely corresponds structurally. It also has to preserve earlier editions instead of silently replacing them. This is evidence infrastructure, not a claim of legal ownership.
You can export normally as often as you like. When an edition is genuinely finished, choose Certify This Edition and review its title, author display name, edition name and number, ISBN, publisher, notes, certified formats, and whether its public record should remain private. Certify & Export runs through the durable job queue and creates an immutable Origin ID, a canonical manuscript representation, chapter, section, and paragraph fingerprints, and a Merkle root. The Origin Record is signed with Ed25519 and stores hashes and metadata rather than manuscript text. Certified EPUB files contain an Inkloom Origin payload, and certified PDFs contain a machine-readable Origin trailer. Later, enter an Origin ID or upload an EPUB or PDF to verify an exact final-file match, canonical content match, or structural content correspondence. The Origin Library preserves every certified edition and its lineage, with downloads for the Origin Record and a professional Provenance Report.
Certification is optional. You choose the edition metadata, certified formats, and privacy setting. You decide when an edition is genuinely finished. Earlier certifications are never overwritten. Origin provides provenance and timestamping evidence, not copyright registration and not a legal determination of authorship or ownership. External anchor providers display not configured until they are actually connected, never as a pretend public timestamp.
What other Inkloom features interact with it
KDP Export
Print presets in all five KDP trim sizes produce single-page PDFs with embedded fonts and gutter margins computed from page count. Kindle export is a reflowable EPUB. Also DOCX, Markdown, and plain text. A readiness check reports what needs attention before you publish.
Book Preview
Preview in three formats: print book (true to your trim's aspect ratio), e-reader (flowing, like Kindle), and editorial manuscript (double-spaced monospace). Print and manuscript previews are genuinely paginated. Click any paragraph to spot-edit.
Version History
Chapter content is append-only versioned. Every edit creates a new version. Restoring creates a new version pointing at old content. Compare any two versions side by side. AI-made versions are labeled. Nothing is ever overwritten or deleted.
Manuscript Import
Import an existing manuscript in DOCX, PDF, Markdown, or TXT format. Inkloom preserves every word you wrote, detects chapter structure, and reconstructs the full project state around your writing. Non-destructive. Works without AI.
Cover Production Studio
Upload cover artwork you already have and make it print-ready. CoverSpec calculates every dimension. Image inspection with quality states. Smart spine generation. Seam preview. Re-conform after page count changes. Export print PDF, Kindle JPEG, full wrap PNG, or front only.

What Is a Manuscript Operating System?
A manuscript operating system is software that manages the evolving state of an entire book, not just the current document. It remembers what the book has established and ensures every chapter serves the same promise.
