Version History: Nothing Is Ever Lost
Chapter content is append-only versioned. Every edit creates a new version. Restoring creates a new version pointing at old content. Compare any two versions side by side. AI-made versions are labeled. Nothing is ever overwritten or deleted.
Why this is hard
Long manuscripts have problems that short documents do not.
When a writing tool overwrites your text, the old version is gone. If you accept an AI revision and then change your mind, you cannot get the original back. If you make a bad edit at midnight, you cannot undo it the next morning.
Most editors save by overwriting. They might have an undo stack, but it does not persist across sessions. There is no permanent record of what the chapter looked like at every point in its history.
