What is an .AppImage?
An AppImage is a single-file application format for Linux. You do not install it. You make it executable and run it directly. After downloading, open a terminal and run:chmod +x Inkloom.AppImage && ./Inkloom.AppImage
Quick start after download
1. Install and launch
Open the downloaded file. On macOS, drag Inkloom to your Applications folder. On Windows, run the installer. On Linux, make the AppImage executable and run it.
On first launch, sign in with your Inkloom account and activate this installation. Your local manuscript database is created on your computer.
2. Start your first project
Create a project from a new concept or import an existing manuscript. Inkloom keeps your writing in the local database and preserves its version history.
You can write and export without AI. Add your own OpenRouter key only when you want generation or review assistance.
3. Add your OpenRouter key
Go to Settings, paste your OpenRouter API key, and pick your planning, drafting, and image models. You can use any OpenRouter model slug.
No key? Every workflow still runs on the deterministic offline provider. The app is fully usable without AI.
4. Start your book
Create a new project. Describe your book in the Concept stage. Answer the adaptive intake questions. Build your Blueprint. Outline your chapters. Start drafting.
