Quick reference

Inkloom uses the same writing actions across macOS, Windows, and Linux. The main difference is the modifier key: use Command on macOS, and use Control on Windows or Linux.

These shortcuts work in the Chapter Editor. They are designed for writing and revision, so you can keep your hands on the manuscript instead of searching through menus.

Modifier key legend

  • macOS: Command is written as Cmd below. The Option key is not required for the editor shortcuts in this guide.
  • Windows: use Ctrl for the Cmd shortcuts below.
  • Linux: use Ctrl for the Cmd shortcuts below.
  • Shift, bracket keys, and letter keys work as shown on a standard keyboard. Your keyboard layout may place a symbol in a different location.
  • Cmd+F on macOS, or Ctrl+F on Windows and Linux: find text in the current chapter. Matches are highlighted, with next and previous navigation.
  • Cmd+A on macOS, or Ctrl+A on Windows and Linux: select all text in the editor.
  • Cmd+D on macOS, or Ctrl+D on Windows and Linux: select the next occurrence of the current word. Use it to make a focused multi-selection without searching manually.
  • Cmd+Shift+L on macOS, or Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows and Linux: select all occurrences of the current word. Press Tab to cycle between the selections.

Text formatting

If you prefer to memorize one set, use the list below for your computer. The action is the same across systems; only the primary modifier changes.

  • macOS: Cmd+F find, Cmd+B bold, Cmd+I italic, Cmd+Z undo, Cmd+Shift+Z redo, Cmd+A select all.
  • Windows: Ctrl+F find, Ctrl+B bold, Ctrl+I italic, Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z redo, Ctrl+A select all.
  • Linux: Ctrl+F find, Ctrl+B bold, Ctrl+I italic, Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z redo, Ctrl+A select all.

When a shortcut does not work

Click inside the Chapter Editor first so it has focus. If the cursor is in a browser address bar, a form field, or another application, the shortcut will belong to that control instead.

Some browser extensions and keyboard utilities claim common shortcuts. Temporarily disable the conflicting tool or use the editor toolbar. You can also open Inkloom's keyboard reference from the toolbar whenever you need a reminder.

Shortcuts change text and structure, but they do not replace your version history. Chapter changes are autosaved and versioned, so you can inspect history and restore without losing the earlier manuscript.

Write without leaving the page

Keyboard shortcuts are small controls that add up over a long manuscript. Find a repeated term, format a chapter heading, move a paragraph, or undo a risky edit without interrupting the thought you are building.

The Chapter Editor also works without AI. You can write, format, search, reorganize, autosave, and review versions manually. AI remains available as a reviewable tool inside the writing environment when you choose to use it.
